Short answer
Yes, if you want water and greenery after the dry city and don't mind a long day. Ouzoud is 155 km from Marrakech, about 2.5–3 h each way, so count on roughly 10 hours door to door with three or four hours at the falls. It suits walkers, families with older children and anyone happy on steep steps.
Choose it if you want an active, green day out and accept a long drive there and back.
Think twice if you only have one free day and the desert is your priority, or if steep, uneven steps are hard on your knees.
The falls drop about 110 metres in several tiers into a gorge of red rock. Paths and steps lead down from the village at the top, past olive trees, old mill houses and café terraces, to the pools at the base.
Barbary macaques live in the trees around the gorge and come close to the paths. They are wild animals: don't feed them, and keep food and loose bags out of reach.
At the bottom, small flat boats take you close to the spray for a short ride. The flow is strongest after winter and spring rain and can drop noticeably by the end of a dry summer.
Tours leave Marrakech early in the morning. The road covers 155 km, about 2.5–3 h each way, mostly across farmland, with a coffee stop on the way. You usually reach the falls in the late morning.
Most groups are handed to a local guide for the walk down, then lunch at one of the terrace restaurants and some free time by the water. After the climb back up, you head home and reach Marrakech in the early evening.
That leaves around three to four hours at the falls. It's enough to walk down, eat and take the boat, but not to explore the gorge further downstream.
A group tour is the simplest way to do Ouzoud in a day. Prices start from around €15 per person, which usually covers transport and not much else: the local guide, lunch and the boat are often paid on the spot. Ask before you book so the total doesn't surprise you.
Going independently is possible but slow. Public transport means a bus or shared grand taxi with at least one change, usually in Azilal, and timetables make a same-day return tight. A private driver gives you more time at the falls and a later start, at a higher cost.
If you'd like the gorge without the groups, a night in one of the guesthouses near the falls lets you walk down in the quiet of the morning.
Low headline prices are normal for this trip, so the details matter more than the price itself.
Spring brings the fullest falls and green fields along the road. Autumn is pleasant too, though the water can be thinner after a dry summer.
Summer days are hot inland and the site gets crowded, especially at weekends and during Moroccan school holidays. Winter is quiet and cool, sometimes wet, and the steps can be slippery. Our month-by-month weather guide shows how hot the interior gets.

Wild Barbary macaques live around the gorge. Watch them; don't feed them.
Steps and dirt paths down into the gorge and back up. Wear shoes with grip.
About 155 km by road, or 2.5–3 h each way by car. With stops and time at the falls, a day trip takes roughly 10 hours, sometimes more.
People do swim in the pools at the base, mostly in summer, but it isn't a supervised swimming spot. Stay well away from the falling water, where the current is strong, and ask your guide where locals go in. Bring a change of clothes and cover up away from the water.
If waterfalls and a green gorge appeal to you, yes. Be honest about the road time, though: you'll spend almost as long in the vehicle as at the falls. With one free day and a strong interest in the desert, a sunset in Agafay needs far less road time.
Ouzoud has much bigger falls and a deeper gorge, but the drive is roughly twice as long. If you want a shorter mountain day with a smaller waterfall walk, the Ourika Valley is the easier option.
Yes, Barbary macaques live in the trees around the falls and often come close to visitors. Feeding them is bad for their health and makes them bolder with bags, so keep snacks away.
Shoes with good grip, as the steps and paths can be wet and steep. In summer bring sun protection and water; in winter and spring, a warm layer for the shade of the gorge.
